A cherished New York City kosher delicatessen, Mendy's has been a staple in the city's culinary scene for decades, famously earning its place in the hearts of New Yorkers and visitors alike. It's known not just for its food, but for its cultural footprint, including a memorable mention in the Seinfeld sitcom that immortalized it as the spot Bania insisted Jerry owed him a meal.

Rabbi Mendy Margolin

Rabbi Mendy Margolin, affectionately known as "Rabbi Pickle," is a traveling educator who teaches the dying art of making authentic New York-style kosher pickles. He has traveled to over a dozen states hosting interactive "Pickle Factory" workshops where communities learn how to craft, spice, and ferment their own pickles. His hourlong seminars combine a lighthearted, Borscht Belt-style comedy show with hands-on education, blending lessons on kosher dietary laws with the actual chemistry of pickling. During his workshops, participants create their own personalized jars using Kirby cucumbers, kosher salt, fresh dill, garlic, and pickling spices. Once packed, the jars ferment on a kitchen counter for about 7 days for full sour pickles, or half that time for half-sours.
